The Life & Struggles of Fatima Elizabeth Cates: The Women who Founded Britain’s First Mosque.
Join us for an enlightening lecture on Fatima Elizabeth Cates (1865‒1900), one of the earliest and most influential Muslim converts in Britain. Fatima was not only one of the first women to embrace Islam in England in 1887, but she also played a key role in establishing Britain’s first mosque community and served as its first treasurer. This lecture will explore her remarkable journey, her courage in overcoming significant societal and familial opposition, and her influential leadership in spreading Islam through both her words and actions.
