Get hands-on with nature at Martin Mere! Explore the pond to discover what’s hiding beneath the surface, then head out on a mini beast safari to search for fascinating insects and creepy crawlies. A fun, interactive adventure for curious little explorers! 🌿🔍

al-Shama’il al-Muhammadiyya

The Shama’il Programme

The Shamā’il introduces children to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a way that helps them to know him, love him and develop a meaningful connection with him.

Rather than learning only the events of the Sīrah, children become familiar with his blessed appearance, noble character, habits, worship, clothing, food, home and everyday life. Through study, practical activities, storytelling and reflection, the programme seeks ultimately to nurture a deep and lasting love for the Prophet ﷺ, for loving him, following him and taking him as our example are central to our faith.

Proposed Course Overview

The following outline is indicative and may be adapted where required.

  • Lessons 1–2: Loving the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

    • The importance of loving and following the Prophet ﷺ

    • His blessed lineage

    • The light and special qualities of the Prophet ﷺ

    • Activities including intentions, a lineage tree, ḥilyah descriptions and an interactive quiz

  • Lesson 3: Blessed Hair, Clothing and Personal Belongings

    • The blessed hair and Seal of Prophethood

    • His clothing, sandals, khuff, ring, kohl and personal belongings

    • Hands-on exploration of replicas and an ʿaqīq ring activity

  • Lesson 4: Armour, Sitting and Resting

    • The Prophet’s ﷺ sword, armour, helmet, bow and other belongings

    • His manner of walking, sitting and resting

    • Creative activities, archery and a Sunnah-inspired pillow activity

  • Lessons 5–6: Food and Drink

    • The foods and drinks enjoyed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

    • Bread, tharīd, fruits and traditional foods

    • Sunnah etiquettes of eating and drinking

    • Duʿās before and after eating

    • Preparing and tasting talbīnah and practising the Sunnah together

  • Lesson 7: Blessed Speech

    • The speech and laughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

    • Poetry, storytelling and communication

    • His manner of sleeping

    • Sīrah storytelling, poetry and interactive activities

  • Lesson 8: Worship and Devotion

    • The worship of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

    • Voluntary prayer, Ṣalāt al-Ḍuḥā, fasting and devotion

    • Recitation and reflection

    • Students practise voluntary prayer, make individual and collective duʿā, and create duʿā cards

  • Lesson 9: Humility and Modesty

    • The noble character, humility and modesty of the Prophet ﷺ

    • Understanding inward and outward modesty

    • Recognising and avoiding arrogance

    • Interactive activities exploring humility and character

  • Lesson 10: Blessed Names and Simple Living

    • The blessed names of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

    • His age and stages of life

    • His home, bedroom, kitchen, bedding and simple lifestyle

    • Exploring the Sunnah home and learning his blessed names through recitation and calligraphy

  • Lesson 11: Passing, Legacy and Connection

    • The passing and burial of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

    • The grief of the Companions

    • His continuing legacy and our connection to him ﷺ

    • Ṣalawāt, dreams of the Prophet ﷺ, duʿā and a creative reflection activity centred on hopes such as visiting Madinah

  • Lessons 12–13: Revision and Consolidation

    • Review of the key themes, teachings and activities covered throughout the programme

    • Interactive revision and preparation for the final showcase

  • Lessons 14–15: Shama’il Showcase and Completion

    • Students prepare and present what they have learned to parents and guests

    • Completion ceremony, certificates and duʿā

Teaching

The programme is delivered by qualified and highly experienced female teachers who combine structured learning with interactive, age-appropriate activities designed to make the Shamā’il meaningful and memorable for children.
